School Uniform

We have a smart, but simple uniform that we require all pupils to wear:

Our policy is that all children should wear clothing that is in keeping with a purposeful learning ethos. We also believe that certain school activities are facilitated by specialised and appropriate clothing (including organised events outside normal school hours).

Aims

Our policy is based on the belief that a school uniform:

  • promotes a sense of pride in the school
  • engenders a feeling of belonging
  • is practical and distinctive
  • identifies the children with the school
  • is not distracting in class (as fashion clothing might be)
  • makes children feel equal to one another in terms of appearance
  • reflects the sense both of community and of diversity that the school takes pride in

Purchasing Uniform

All items with the school logo can be purchases at Monkhouse (Information below). All items without a school logo can be purchased at most major supermarkets. Alternatively, you can purchase second hand uniform for 50p in The Nest every other Wednesday morning or during parent’s evenings.

Please make sure that all items are labelled with your child’s name. This is especially important, as uniform items look similar and can easily be confused for another child’s. The school cannot accept responsibility for any lost items. If found the item will be taken back to your child’s class. Summer uniform can be worn from the beginning of the Easter term through to October half-term if the weather is appropriate.

Footwear

Shoes or trainers must be black and sturdy; please ensure that there is no heel and fashion shoes should not be worn. We recommend that children in Nursery and Reception wear shoes with velcro straps. Open-toe shoes are not suitable for school.

Jewellery

On health and safety grounds we do not allow children to wear jewellery in our school. If children do wear jewellery into school, they will be asked to remove it. The only exception to this is small earring studs. This also includes smart watches, or personal trackers – these must not be worn at any time. The following list indicates examples of these (but is not limited to): Apple Watches, Fitbits, Samsung Galaxy Watches, Fossil Gen 6, Garmin, Google Pixel Watches, Amazfit, Huawei Watches,Skagen Falster, TicWatch, Suunto.

Children are not allowed to participate in PE lessons with earrings in so please ensure that they can remove them independently or that they do not wear them on PE days. PE is a compulsory part of the National Curriculum, and the expectation is that all children will participate.

If you are planning to get your child’s ears pierced, then please can you ensure that you do so at the beginning of the Summer holiday so that it does not impact upon school.

Make up and Cosmetics

Make up and cosmetics are not considered appropriate or consistent with our school uniform. The school does not permit such products to be worn by any children. If children do wear cosmetics into school, they will be asked to remove it.

Hair/ Hair Accessories

Hair that falls past the shoulder must be tied back with a hair bobble. Please ensure that headbands and hair accessories are small and simple and only black, blue or grey in colour.
