Year 6 had a fantastic afternoon learning all about the Worcestershire Youth Cabinet. The Worcestershire Youth Cabinet is a group of young people (aged 11 to 18) who aim to provide all of the young people who live in Worcestershire with a voice. The children were joined by the chair of the Cabinet who spoke to the children about how voting works in parliament and the process of debate. Year 6 really enjoyed planning their debate on the topic âNo school should play competitive sportsâ. The children had fantastic feedback from the members of the cabinet running the session, who stated they were all very engaged and enthusiastic.
Being apart of something like this is a great opportunity for children to give back to their community and get their voices heard. Any person aged 11-18 can go along to the meetings and be a part of the cabinet.
We asked the children what they thought of the workshop, who said:
âFollowing the workshop, I am thinking about joining the Youth Cabinet so that I have a voice to make a differenceâ Owura, Year 6.
âWe held our own mini debate about competitive sports which enabled us to use our oracy skills. Everyone then voted to decide on what we would like to see happen in Worcestershire. It was very empowering!â Alex, Year 6.
